Every December, the city of Chandler raises a uniquely Western Christmas tree: one made out of tumbleweeds! Between 1500 and 2000 of these bushy bramble-balls are gathered, assembled inside of a 35 foot-high wire frame, painted white, and covered with flame retardant. Glitter, a star and approximately 1200 lights complete the transformation of a pile of weeds into a holiday delight. This year (2008) marked the 52nd annual lighting of the Tumbleweed Tree.
