From The Mountaintop

Here on this mountaintop, as night deepens and the last faint glow of twilight fades, we are alone. This is one of our secret spots, which we return to again and again to escape the madding crowd. This time it has been ten years since our last visit, but thankfully we find the place much the same. The lone ancient juniper still spreads its gnarled branches to the sky; the view still goes on forever in all directions. We stand against the chill wind, while far below, out on the floor of the Mojave Desert, the lights of distant cities remind us that we are never truly alone.
