April 5, 1997, 8:23 p.m.

For our "Big Finale" comet-shooting session, Rick Scott and I travelled to Joshua Tree National Park in Southern California for the weekend of April 4 & 5, 1997. The exact location was along the Geology Tour Road, which crosses a broad plain studded with Joshua Trees. The comet was quite impressive; even with horizon glow from Los Angeles area it was the brightest we had seen it.
