Big Bear Solar Observatory

[observatories_14.jpg]

Big Bear Solar Observatory is located at an altitude of 6750 feet in the San Bernardino mountains of Southern California. The observatory has a most unusual location -- in the middle of Big Bear Lake! The high elevation, clear skies and smooth flow of air across the surface of the lake combine to give excellent conditions for observing the sun.

The observatory is operated by the New Jersey Institute of Technology. More information may be found at the Big Bear Solar Observatory web page.
