Jarvis Memorial

[space_jarviswide.jpg]

Gregory B. Jarvis (1944-1986) was a Hughes Aircraft Company engineer who was selected to fly as a payload specialist on the Space Shuttle Challenger. He was killed when the Challenger exploded shortly after launch on January 28, 1986. The Jarvis Memorial is located on the bike path at Hermosa Beach, California, just north of the Hermosa Pier. The central plaque reads: "Rest here and remember the gallant crew of Challenger 51L, including Greg Jarvis of Hermosa Beach -- astronaut, athlete and engineer. His indomitable spirit is ever with us on The Strand."
