Sirius Rising

Brightest star in the night sky, Sirius blazes a path as it rises over a moonlit desert ridge. How did I know exactly where to point my telephoto lens to capture the star rising? I positioned myself so Sirius was just above the ridge and aimed my camera. Then I quickly moved my tripod a few feet forward so that Sirius was just barely below the ridge, and opened the shutter.
